Notes
Ingredients (with measurements)
For the Wontons and Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
- 14 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 (12-ounce) bag frozen chicken wontons (mini chicken cilantro from Trader Joe’s or Costco work great!)
- 1–2 cups chicken broth (adjust for desired soupiness)
- 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1–2 tablespoons chili crisp
- Don’t Thaw the Wontons: Cooking them straight from frozen keeps them intact
- Use Quality Chili Crisp: It makes a big difference in depth and texture
- Control Soupiness: Use less broth for a saucy dish, more for a soup-style bowl
- Taste Before Serving: Teriyaki sauces vary in saltiness
- Extra Veggies: Bok choy, spinach, or napa cabbage
- More Protein: Add a soft-boiled egg or shrimp
- Noodle Bowl: Serve over rice noodles or ramen
- Milder Version: Skip chili crisp and use sesame oil only
- Steamed jasmine rice
- Simple cucumber salad
- Asian slaw
- Dumpling sauce or soy-vinegar dip
